There’s a reason that Trump supports Brett Kavanaugh for the Supreme Court. If on the Supreme Court, Kavanaugh may side with Trump’s lawyers to protect him from investigation and indictment. Will Kavanaugh be Trump’s game card to Get Out of Jail Free?
Kavanaugh has said that a sitting President should not be prosecuted for crimes. Not even investigated–which means the President doesn’t have to answer questions about possible crimes. Kavanaugh’s hinted that a sitting President shouldn’t be sued either.
- Kavanaugh has suggested it was wrong to make Nixon turn over the Watergate tapes.
- He’s hinted that it was wrong for Bill Clinton to be questioned by Paula Jones’ lawyers in her sexual harassment case.
- He says the only solution for a President’s crimes is to impeach him. Right. We know how that goes if the Republicans remain in control of Congress.
Meanwhile Special Counsel Robert Mueller wants to question Trump about campaign collusion with Russia in 2016. Their negotiations have stalled. If Mueller subpoenas Trump, the case may very well go to the Supreme Court for a decision.
Kavanaugh has shown extreme views about Presidential power and immunity. This is a dangerous characteristic for a Supreme Court justice in these times. Please ask your members to call your Senators to vote against Kavanaugh’s nomination.
