John Nalbandian has been nominated for a lifetime appointment as judge for a federal appeals court (6th Circuit Court of Appeals). This court is only one step below the U.S. Supreme Court and makes legal precedent for other federal courts.
- During his nomination hearing, Nalbandian refused to say that Roe v. Wade was decided correctly, even though he said that other Supreme Court cases were decided correctly. To him, Roe v. Wade is not settled law. This is a red flag that Nalbandian is willing to overturn or cut back on Roe v. Wade, and a woman’s right to choose.
- As a lawyer, Nalbandian has a record of defending voter suppression efforts, such as the voter ID laws in Indiana and Ohio. He has worked against bilingual education, and even more telling, bilingual ballots.
Nalbandian has been an active member of the Federalist Society for 27 years, and he is a favorite of ultraconservative Sen Mitch McConnell (R-Ky). McConnell recommended him for this judgeship.
Nalbandian should not be a judge for this important appeals court. Please call your Senators and ask them to vote against Nalbandian’s nomination.
Please call your Senators and say:
Hi, my name is [name] and I’m a constituent from [zip code]. I’m calling to ask the Senator to vote NO on the nomination of John Nalbandian for a lifetime judgeship on the federal appeals court. Nalbandian has refused to support Roe v. Wade and I am afraid that as a judge he will overturn or severely cut back on a woman’s right to choose. Nalbandian has also defended suppression against our fundamental right to vote. Please oppose Nalbandian’s nomination and vote against him.
