Why is IEB considering endorsing Alex Padilla for U.S. Senate in 2022?
Indivisible East Bay only makes endorsements when we have an extraordinary reason to act. In this largely uncontested race, the reason is to thank Alex Padilla for how well he’s represented us since being appointed to the Senate a year ago. He’s done excellent work in areas from climate to immigration to healthcare, and he deserves special recognition for his vigorous support of IEBs top 2021 priority: democracy reform and expansion. Our endorsement would encourage him to continue to speak and act boldly on:
- Making the Senate (somewhat) more democratic: He was an early and forceful advocate for ending the legislative filibuster.
- Protecting voting rights and ensuring fair representation: He and his staff contributed to all the major pieces of legislation Democrats tried to pass in this area.
- Confirming a diverse federal bench: He worked with the Biden administration to select federal judges with a significantly wider variety of backgrounds and experiences than all previous administrations’ nominees.
That is why we are proposing this endorsement for your consideration, but whether we endorse or not is up to our members so please take a look at information about this Senate race and Alex Padilla’s:
