Team: Communications
Position open: Communications Team Lead
Description:
Goals:
Oversees and facilitates the communications process and transactions
Supports the Research and Member of Congress teams to help them get the word out about their work
Regularly communicates with other teams to get feedback on the communications process
Ensures that content and language are consistent, effective, and in keeping with IEB values and mission
Description:
Ensure that communication requests from other teams such as Research and Member of Congress teams are fulfilled
Monitor and manage media escalations when needed
Execute process improvements if necessary
Make sure Communications team is staffed appropriately
Evaluate the effectiveness of the team (develop metrics, set goals, etc.).
Skills needed: Ability to project manage, take leadership of communications projects
People skills in all-volunteer environment
Deadline oriented
Ability to make & evaluate process improvements if necessary
Understanding of internal and external communication strategy
Any other special skills or traits: We are looking for two co-leads currently; if you are not an expert in all types of media, we may be able to find a co-lead who has expertise in the areas with which you aren’t familiar. Please let us know if you do have specialized areas of expertise.
Estimated time commitment: 3-5 hours/week, perhaps more starting out and/or during specific projects
How often the team meets: Biweekly
Method of team meetings (in person, conference call, etc): Meetings can be in person or via conference call.

Position open: Traditional Media Contact
Description:
Goal:
Cultivate and maintain relationships with press contacts representing various traditional media (newspapers, TV, radio)
Work with copy editors and other teams to send out press releases to press contacts in a timely manner
Description:
Generates local media contacts in traditional print and electronic media
Cultivates relationships with those contacts in order to inform the public and publicize our actions to further IEB’s goals
Sends finalized content of press releases, Letters to the Editor, etc.
Skills needed: Relationship building
Some familiarity with writing and editing press releases
Meeting deadlines
Any other special skills or traits: Ideally we are looking for someone with experience working with traditional media in some capacity, but eagerness to learn and commitment to follow through would serve as a good substitute.
