We (Indivisible East Bay) held not just one, not just two, but three(!) DNC Watch parties last night. They were fun and joyous (befitting the mood at the Convention itself). There was good food and games (yes, we had bingo!). And of course we celebrated the nomination of Kamala Harris for President of the United States.

And what a night! Actually, it’s hard to imagine how the Convention could have gone better across all four nights. From the soaring and inspiring rhetoric of so many of the speeches (Obamas, Oprah, Kinzinger, etc.) to the emotional intensity and enthusiasm of the crowd. Not to mention some of the best take-downs of Donald Trump you have ever heard! And, of course, it was capped off by the pitch-perfect acceptance speech of the nominee herself.

But don’t just take our word for it. Jonathan Chiat (writing for New York magazine) called Kamala’s speech “The Best Acceptance Speech I’ve Ever Seen.”

And The Daily Beast declared: “Kamala Harris Nailed the Greatest Speech of Her Life.” This article went on to offer an effusive summary of the entire week’s worth of speeches:

“In a week of speechmaking like none of us have seen in our lifetimes, with one barn-burning or heart-tugging or inspiring address after another electrifying the crowd at the Democratic National Convention, the biggest question confronting Kamala Harris before she took the stage for the final keynote of the event was ‘How can she top all that?'”

“What is remarkable and deeply consequential is that she did just that. Even if she did not reach the highest highs of the Obamas’ remarks or the emotional depths plumbed by a simple cutaway from Tim Walz to his son Gus, she delivered not only the speech of her life on Thursday night, she delivered one that in substance, tone, and historical significance surpassed all those that came before her during this week that would have had Daniel Webster sitting up and taking notes.”

“She took us from the intimate to the soaring, from facts we needed to the call to action the moment demanded. And in so doing, she provided the best and only possible ending for an extraordinary convention, its greatest speech, and more than that the impetus to begin the hard but essential work of actually winning the election.”

We couldn’t have said it any better.

Yes, it was great fun. But the Convention/party is now over. We have just one job left:

LET’S WIN THIS!
