Join a Team

The work of IEB is now centered around a collection of around 20 teams that represent all the different things we do. Check out the Teams list below. Find the one that speaks to you — and select to join it!

If you’d like to volunteer, but don’t know your best fit yet, you can chat with someone from the Welcome Team! In this conversation, you can (1) get your questions answered about how IEB works, (2) talk over what team might be a good fit for you, and/or (3) kick around ideas for more ways for IEB to have impact? Working with MOCs (Members of Congress) is the bread and butter of indivisible groups! Indivisible is founded on the principle that constituent pressure works. We push our MOCs to do better when they fall short, and cheer them on when they do the right thing.

IEB’s Senate Team is part of a coalition of Northern California Indivisible groups that sets up meetings with staff from Senator Padilla’s and Senator Schiff’s offices. Senate Team members can choose one Senator to focus on, or can work with both. We contribute to meeting agendas, attend meetings, and make our voices heard.

This team gathers the third Wednesday of each month from 7:00-8:00 (mostly on Zoom and sometimes in person). Through engaging with this team, you will find good opportunities for involvement - from candidate meet & greets, to GOTV (get out the vote) activities, to forums on local issues. You will also have the option of joining meetings with House Representative Garamendi, representing District 8.

Indivisible East Bay does not have its own team that works with Rep. DeSaulnier. Instead, we partner with our friends at Indivisible ReSisters Contra Costa (IRCC) - this group has an active MOC group that works with Rep. DeSaulnier. Join here!

To join the IRCC DeSaulnier Team: Send an email to IndivisibleResisters@gmail.com and put “DeSaulnier” in the subject line!

Join Team Simon to learn about events and actions related to CA-12 Congresswoman Lateefah Simon.

Indivisible East Bay does not have its own team that works in this district. Instead, we partner with our friends at Indivisible Tri-Valley - this group has an active MOC group.

Note: This Team's work is currently "TBD" due to the resignation of Rep. Swalwell.

Join fellow “citizen lobbyists” in a dynamic and influential statewide coalition that campaigns for our state senators and Assembly members to enact progressive policies. The core effort happens in five issue-area workgroups. (Technically there are two overlapping organizations: Indivisible California, which is the collection of Indivisible groups coordinating with each other in general, and California StateStrong (CASS), which is the coalition of activists working specifically on state policy as described.)

To join Indivisible CA StateStrong: Write to info@indivisibleeb.org and put “CASS” in the subject line!

IEB has four issue-focused Action Teams! Join one and be part of a community of passionate, committed people fighting to protect the people and the planet from harm.

CAT works to minimize damage to climate progress and make additional climate progress; advance climate justice; and grow the number of people taking climate action. We have a Federal Workgroup and a State Workgroup, and plan to form Local Workgroups. To take action, each Workgroup partners with established climate organizations, supporting their initiatives and building our own advocacy skills. In addition, we offer several ways to take “bite-sized” actions: our Climate Action Hour Crew supports people to take effective climate action in just one hour; and our Tabling Crew shares important information with the public and brings in new supporters, while hanging out in the sunshine at farmers markets!

Our LGBTQ+ Action Team works to build solidarity and protect LGBTQ rights, services and supports in the East Bay and beyond.

The IAT is an IEB action team that supports immigrants in our communities and fights attacks on immigrant rights. Please join us by participating in one or more of the following projects:

1. Join the Direct Support Team. In partnership with local immigrant rights organizations, the Direct Support team helps connect immigrants to services and provides support to those with asylum cases at the Concord Immigration Court. While most roles require at least conversational Spanish, there are some opportunities for English-only volunteers. Online and in-person training is provided. To Join, CLICK HERE.

2. Join the Home Depot Adopt a Corner and Community Defense Team. IEB’s Adopt a Corner Corner patrol is located at Home Depot in Oakland. Our patrols are inspired by the work of the National Day Laborers Network and activists in Minneapolis who organized neighborhood defense networks. When you sign up, we provide training and help you sign up for shifts with our welcoming patrol community.  To join, CLICK HERE.

3. Join the Mutual Aid Team.  Help support our neighbors with access to food, housing and other basic needs. We seek to promote safety in our communities so that immigrants and all of our neighbors can be free from attacks by ICE, mass detention and incarceration. Our first project is to provide food for our neighbors in need. We are coordinating these efforts with Faith In Action East Bay. To join, CLICK HERE.

4. Join the Know Your Rights Team. We support immigrants and allies with Know Your Rights (KYR) information and guidance for asserting their constitutional rights, especially during interactions with ICE or other law enforcement officials. We currently focus on distributing Know Your Rights Red Cards and Yellow Cards in immigrant and allied communities. To join, CLICK HERE.

We are really excited to put a measure on Berkeley’s November 2026 ballot to provide start-up funds for a public bank in the East Bay! Currently, private banks invest our money in private detention centers, fossil fuels, and wars abroad. A public bank will make the East Bay more resilient to federal chaos and fund a future we want to live in with renewable energy, affordable housing, and thriving small businesses! We have several roles you can take on: signature gatherer, signature-gathering event lead, signature-packet logistics coordinator, and house party host. Other skills or ideas are welcome too!

If you are interested in being on the Public Bank Campaign Team, please sign up HERE.

Group operations teams enable the day-to-day workings of IEB, develop members’ skills, foster solidarity (among members and with allied groups), and facilitate our ability to take more strategic and effective action. These teams help make IEB a “political home” for East Bay residents, lay the foundation for long-term resilience, and build our people power.

This committee provides overall direction of the group: sustaining group infrastructure, coordinating key activities, planning our All-Member meetings, and supporting IEB’s teams. We welcome new members! Requirements include: (1) basic alignment with Indivisible’s strategy; (2) a commitment to nonviolence; (3) having been a member for at least six months; (4) experience as a leader within IEB team (preferably a leadership role on an IEB team); (5) willingness to attend all monthly Steering Committee and All-Member meetings; and (6) an ability to dedicate a minimum of 10 hours/month to IEB (including meetings). If you would like to apply (or to find out more about the Steering Committee and how to apply), write to info@indivisibleeb.org and put “SC membership” in the subject line.

This team does the mission-critical work of individual outreach to new members to make them feel welcome, and to help them find good ways to plug in. Even though this team has eleven members, with so many new people coming into IEB each week, our Welcomers have a hard time keeping up! If you love to help people feel at home in a new space, and have been with IEB at least three months (so that you are familiar enough with how IEB works to answer questions about our group), consider joining the Welcome Team!

This team plans many IEB events, including rallies, marches, protests, press conferences, membership meetings, and social events. This team provides the important function of being able to stand up events relatively quickly when Indivisible calls for a national day of action. The key functions on this team are: logistics (scouting and reserving sites for our events); sound (arranging for a sound system that works for the space); speakers (building up a “speakers bureau” of people we can call upon to be in speaker line-ups); promotion (getting the word out and crowd-building); and event project management (overall coordination of events and volunteer management). The Events Team partners closely with two other IEB Teams: the Peacekeeping Team (so that our events are safe and peaceful) and the Media Team (so that our events get press coverage).

To share your interest in the Events Team and tell us about your skills and experience: CLICK HERE!

The Peacekeepers Team (AKA Safety Team) is absolutely vital to the effectiveness of our movement. Peacekeepers embody principles of nonviolence. Not only is such a discipline important for safety, but it’s also strategic: nonviolent resistance is much more likely to succeed than movements that turn violent. Peacekeepers wear yellow vests at our protests, rallies, and marches - where they keep protesters safe, direct marchers to stay on the route, and de-escalate any conflicts that may arise. Team members receive trainings in topics such as protest safety, nonviolence, de-escalation and walkie-talkie use.

This mighty team puts out IEB’s weekly newsletter, informing our membership about how to take action, events to join, more ways to get involved, and what IEB volunteers have been up to.  To let the Newsletter Team know you’re interested in helping out, CLICK HERE!

This team helps shape the public narrative by getting our actions and perspective covered by the media. The team also works to align our messaging with the broader narrative promoted by progressive messaging experts (in addition to following messaging advice from Indivisible, we primarily turn to: Research Collaborative, Winning the Jobs Narrative, and the Focal Points Strategy Group). Activities include: cultivating relationships with reporters, keeping our local media list up to date, and writing media advisories and press releases about IEB events. In addition, the team will run trainings for IEB members who would like to be effective spokespeople at events, or to publish op-eds or letters to the editor.

This team oversees all of IEB's digital media presence. There are two separate subgroups.

The first subgroup oversees our Website (www.indivisibleeb.org). Primary activities include: writing and posting blog entries (text and graphics), keeping our Events calendar up-to-date — and "back-end" maintenance of the entire site (which runs on WordPress). Prior experience with Wordpress is not required, but desirable.

The second subgroup oversees our Social Media (Bluesky, Facebook, YouTube, etc.). Activities include: posting to the various media on a regular basis, responding to feedback from users — and general maintenance of the accounts. We strive to promote IEB actions and increase user engagement — making our social media presence a significant political force.

The Power-Building Team (PBT) focuses on the work that turns participation into real, durable power. Strong social movement organizations rely on three critical sources of power: solidaristic bonds, distributed leadership, and diversity. The PBT develops and supports these by helping people find welcoming on-ramps into IEB, supporting members to grow into leadership, and building the relationships and practices that make sustained action possible – while intentionally diversifying our membership and leadership. The PBT includes roles like Navigators, Leadership Development Coaches, and Trainers. Do you want to help people find the volunteer roles that light them up? Deepen the bonds among IEB members? Diversify leadership and distribute it more broadly throughout the organization? Then we’d love to hear from you!

IEB has a few groups that form around shared interests or activities. We are open to forming more! If you have ideas for an affinity group that you want to form and that you are willing to run with support from the IEB steering committee, write to info@indivisibleeb.org, and write “Affinity Group” in the subject line.

The Youth Action Caucus provides a space for Indivisible members under 35 to share ideas, address issues impacting young people, and create a motivated and vibrant community of activists. The YAC plans to host events including workshops, socials, and movie nights. Our goal is to encourage new activists to join Indivisible and work alongside action groups to provide community, training, and support.

The Overpass Visibility Brigade (OVB) uses giant letters to share messages in public spaces - most notably, overpasses! Short, punchy messages that thousands of drivers see in an hour can pique interest, persuade through salience and repetition (if messages appear elsewhere too), and make people feel that they are not alone in their worry, fear, or outrage. This type of narrative-shaping work can draw more people into a movement. Joining the Brigade can mean coming to an art build to make more giant letters, attending an Overpass Visibility Brigade event, or hosting your own event using IEB’s letter library! The Brigade even has a Letter Librarian, who stores the letters and runs a letter check-out system.

IEB has many artivists: people who have artistic skills, and want to bring them to activism! Throughout history, the visual and performing arts have been integral to social justice movements, and our present moment is no different. Learn more about artivism here! Right now, our artivists constitute an informal group - but we hope that the Artivist Crew builds its numbers and capacity, becomes a team that coordinates actively with the Events Team, and helps IEB to make joyful and beautiful trouble!

To find the Artivism Crew, join Slack and then join the #artivism channel!

This is a small group of IEB folks reaching out to Indivisible chapters in red states to learn from them, help them be a beacon of truth in a sea of red, and support their efforts to hold their Members of Congress accountable using creative methods.

For more information on this team, write to info@indivisibleeb.org, and put “Storytelling” in the subject line.

There is a huge impact on our communities from the termination of federal and state funding for health. It impacts Medicaid, research , public health, clinical trials, nutrition programs and many other huge cuts that impact peoples’ health. We are documenting the personal impact of the federal and state cuts to health by telling the stories of individuals.

If you are interested in joining our group, fill out the Health Stories Group Signup Form. We'll be in touch.

If you would like to contribute a health story of your own, please go to this page for more information.
