May Day in the Time of Trump: Film and Panel Discussion
The May Day workers’ celebration – with its origins in the U.S. workers’ struggle for an 8-hour day – has historically been a time to fight the bosses in solidarity. That fight has unfolded in different ways under differing conditions. As workers in the East Bay approach May Day 2026 (and aim to build toward national mass action by May Day 2028), now is a great time to learn about the history of May Day and deliberate together about what we want to make of it in the midst of current struggles.
Renowned labor historian Fred Glass will present his 30-minute film, “We Mean to Make Things Over,” followed by a discussion by panelists and participants about what it will take to be much more powerful by May Day 2028, and how we can use May Day 2026 as a building block on the way.
Oakland Community Space – 1955 Broadway, Suite B, Oakland, CA, 94612.
Light supper will be served.
