Our Mission and Goals

Indivisible East Bay (IEB) is a grassroots community group founded in 2017, in conjunction with Indivisible National. We are working to expand and protect our democracy and enact a progressive legislative agenda. We do this by influencing our representatives in government, advocating for policies that advance economic, racial, gender, and environmental justice, participating in electoral work, and allying with groups across the country to protect our rights and build a vibrant, participatory democracy and a better future for all.

Indivisible East Bay was initially inspired by the original 2016 Indivisible Guide — later by the updated 2020 Indivisible Guide and, most recently, by the 2024 Indivisible: A Practical Guide to Democracy on the Brink. Written by Indivisible’s Founders and Co-Executive Directors, Ezra Levin and Leah Greenberg, who were previously Congressional staffers, Indivisible’s Guides offer a practical approach for fighting against Trumpism and fixing our democracy.

Geography

We cover the East Bay Area that spans California’s 8th, 10th, 12th, and 14th U.S. Congressional districts. The majority of our several thousand members come from Berkeley, Oakland, El Cerrito and adjacent communities.
