It’s been a big week- the Senate passed the COVID relief package, and while it’s missing some features we liked, we’re glad to see relief going to people and communities who desperately need it, including $1400 checks, aid to states, an expanded child tax credit, and more. There’s more to do, but there’s lots to celebrate, too.
Last week, we also asked you to talk to your Senators about abolishing the filibuster. This past weekend, West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin, a key Democratic filibuster holdout, indicated he’s willing to make the filibuster harder to use. This could be a huge step toward advancing key legislative priorities, but we still have a long way to go.
With the COVID relief bill done, it’s time to focus on other pressing issues facing the country– and there are many. Indivisible National has formed working groups on five core issue areas, Democracy Reform, Climate Justice, Economic Justice, Healthcare Justice, and Immigration Justice, and Indivisible East Bay is participating too! We’re discussing IEB’s working group involvement at an information session this evening, Tuesday, March 9, from 6:30 to 7:30 PM. RSVP here. There’s still time to sign up!
We’ll gather on Zoom to learn more about the groups, hear updates from groups that have started already (don’t worry if you’ve missed a meeting- it’s not too late to join!), and introduce group members to each other. Both new and returning volunteers are encouraged to join, and any level of time commitment is welcome.

Hope to see you this evening!
