The number of people at Saturday’s No Kings rallies, nationwide, spectacularly smashed through even the most optimistic of predictions. According to Axios: “More than 5 million people took part in No Kings demonstrations in over 2,100 cities and towns across the country.”

The day demonstrated both the breadth and the depth of the opposition to Trump and his criminal attempts to achieve authoritarian power. We showed up — and made it clear that we are here to stay!

Indivisible East Bay was the lead sponsor for the event in Oakland. It began at Wilma Chan Park, where former Congresswoman Barbara Lee and California Assemblymember Buffy Wicks gave impromptu speeches. And, after marching through the streets, the rally continued at Oscar Grant/Frank H. Ogawa Plaza — where over 10,000 people gathered to hear brief speeches by Congresswoman Lateefah Simon, Assemblymember Mia Bonta and representatives of numerous progressive organizations — all MCed by the fabulous Francisco Herrera!

The Oakland gathering was just one of dozens of rallies in the Bay Area — from across the bridge in San Francisco to right here in our “backyard” (such as El Cerrito and Albany).

Here’s just a small sampling of the extensive news coverage our Oakland march/rally — and other Bay area protests — received:
