Perhaps it was a sign of good things to come. After so many days of cold, clouds and rain, the weather was glorious — warm and sunny. And befitting the significance of the occasion, Indivisible East Bay had its largest in-person turn-out for an All-Members Meeting (AMM) since before the pandemic. About 70 people had signed up to attend, and 40 attended!

It was a day for reunions with long-time members whom we hadn’t seen for a long while. And it was a day to “meet and greet” new members attending their first AMM. And everything in between.

It was a day to celebrate IEB’s 7th anniversary of fighting for democracy. And we did so in style —  with pizza from Dimond Slice, a white sheet cake with cheesecake mousse filling and an assortment of truffles from See’s.

Yes! It’s IEB’s IEB’s 7th Anniversary cake!

Finally, and most importantly, it was a day to kick-start our all-out effort to forge a decisive victory in November  — defeating Trump, retaking Democratic control of the House and maintaining the Democratic majority in the Senate.

How exactly do we plan to do that? Glad you asked. Indivisible East Bay has put together a collection of teams — each one tasked with a unique role in our quest for success over the months ahead. A large part of Sunday’s meeting was devoted to informing attendees about the function of each of these teams — and giving them an opportunity to sign up for the ones they found the most interesting.

  • Community-Building Team
    • Help build community among IEB members by: welcoming new members, hosting new member orientations, supporting people to find a rewarding role within IEB, and much more.

  • Elections Team: CD13 Canvass Crew
    • You’ll go on field trips to District 13 to canvass or to register voters with other canvass crew members. Trips happen a few times a month.

  • Elections Team: CD13 Call Crew
    • Join Zoom events to call voters in CD13! There are several phonebank types and together we’ll find the ones we like best, attend them as a group, and also build out our crew by supporting new people to find the joy of talking to strangers!

  • Elections Team: Fundraising Crew
    • You’ll work with a group of fun-loving folks to organize fundraising events.

  • West Contra Costa Team
    • Opportunities for involvement here range from candidate meet & greets to forums on local issues. You will also have the option of joining meetings with House Representative Garamendi (CD-8).

  • California StateStrong (CASS): State Legislation
    • You can help turn good bills into state law — by joining one of the California StateStrong workgroups – Healthcare, Democracy Reform, Economic Justice, Racial & Criminal Justice, or Climate Justice.

  • Nevada Team
    • Nevada is a twofer: we can defend a Senate seat and win an electoral college battleground state! Options include: phonebanking and postcarding to voters, recruiting volunteers for the Nevada Democrats, trips to Nevada to canvass and more.

  • Digital Media Team
    • Work on IEB’s website and social media accounts to keep members (and the public) informed about important issues and upcoming events. Digital media is also a key means of attracting new members.

  • Relational Organizing Team
    • For the Biden-Harris campaign, the Democratic Party is going all-in on relational organizing (talking to people you know). IEB is forming a Relational Organizing Team to take part in this innovative strategy! If you’re not down to canvass or to phonebank, this is a powerful option. We can mobilize networks in battleground states; shift the public narrative on Biden’s record; and use the Biden-Harris content library to post on social media. So many options!

  • District 14 Team
    • Attend periodic meetings with Rep. Eric Swalwell (CD-14) and his staff to discuss and ask him to co-sponsor key legislation. Also, highlight Indivisible priorities and expectations of our members of Congress.

  • Elections Team: CD13 & CD22 Postcarding Crew
    • Hang out and write postcards at parties that happen on Sundays from 2-4, typically twice a month, hosted at an IEB member’s home.
