Yes. Mainstream media agrees with what we have been loudly proclaiming for some time now: Control of the House will be determined by how California votes this fall. A featured article in today’s Los Angeles Times puts it this way:

“With the Golden State home to some of the most hotly contested swing districts in the country, the House’s fate will almost certainly come down to California. The battle for the next two years of partisan political control will be waged door-to-door…” “At the end of the day, the path to 218 runs through California.”

Throwing down the gauntlet, the Chairperson of the California Republican Party offered this perspective:

“People across the country liked to dismiss ‘blue California,’ but they were forgetting that California has more registered Republicans than any other state. California Republicans are the reasons why we have a House majority.”

We agree! And we plan to change that!

Of special interest to us here at Indivisible East Bay, the LA Times pointed to two San Joaquin Valley rematches as crucial to Democratic success. Both House races are expected to be very close: (1) Democrat Rudy Salas again challenging incumbent David Valadao in the 22nd Congressional District and (2) Democrat Adam Gray again facing off against incumbent John Duarte in the 13th Congressional District.

IEB has especially focused its attention of CD-13. How can you help us secure a win here? We’ve answered this before, but it bears repeating:

  • We’re working with Field Team 6 by writing postcards to potential voters in CD-13 to get them to register to vote! Sign up for postcard events here.
  • Our Canvass Crew heads to CD-13 1-2 times a month. Sign up here to learn more.
  • Our Call Crew phonebanks to CD-13. Join us, get access to training resources, and grow your confidence to talk to voters! Fill out the interest form here!

It isn’t often that California is such a pivotal state in a national election. Because it has been so overwhelmingly Blue, its elections typically don’t seem to matter as much as those in traditional swing states. This time it’s different — with critical races that are almost in our backyard! So let’s make the most of our “golden” opportunity to make a difference!
