Let’s swing Nevada blue!

Back in the 60’s, Frank Sinatra crooned about Las Vegas being a swingin’ city — always ready for a party. Today, Las Vegas…and all of Nevada…are still swinging…but to a different tune and with a different type of party. Now it’s all about which political party will get the electoral and Congressional victories in this critical swing state.

Frankly (pun intended), it doesn’t look great for Democrats at the moment. Biden in particular is currently trailing Trump in Nevada by about 7 points in recent polls. And as we’ve written before, without Nevada, Biden will have a tough time winning the presidency. But there’s still five months until the election. That leaves ample time to turn things around — but no time left to waste.

We also need to make sure that Jacky Rosen retains her Senate seat — critically important for keeping the Democratic majority in the Senate.

That’s where we (California) come in. With Nevada as our next door neighbor, we’re in the perfect location to help provide needed resources and boots on the ground. That’s why, for this election cycle, Northern Nevada is one of two places where Indivisible East Bay decided to focus its attention (California’s CA-13 is the other).

IEB’s Nevada Team has been working both with Indivisible Nevada and Nevada Democrats — to create campaign resources, do phone banks, recruit volunteers and — coming soon — canvass in the Reno area. We have separate “crews” for each of these activities. Here are key highlights from our most recent meeting on May 20th:

• Canvass crew. We’re co-ordinating with Swing Left Santa Cruz to drive to Reno for weekends of canvassing. You can sign up here.
• Call crew. We’re bringing callers together to make calls to voters — also providing support and training to said callers!
• Volunteer recruitment crew. We’re working phone lines to call warm leads, finding folks to volunteer with the Nevada Democrats and with Indivisible. We’ll also be recruiting more people to join the IEB Nevada canvass and call crews — you may hear from us soon!
• Research crew. We’re continuing to develop campaign material specific to Nevada. We’ve already produced an iPhone document that summarizes Nevada-related Biden administration accomplishments and a related flyer to hand out while canvassing.
